The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) is a nonprofit women’s organization committed to promoting volunteerism; developing the potential of women; and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Headquartered at historic Wayside Cottage, the JLCW serves the communities of Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale and White Plains. The JLCW’s purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Each year, the JLCW researches the issues facing residents in our service area, designs programs to address these problems, and provides funding and volunteers for these programs. Many of these programs are designed and implemented in cooperation with our community partners. Organizations interested in developing a project with the JLCW should contact our Community Development Director, Karen Chapro, through our offices or by email at chapro4@aol.com. The process for submitting a project proposal to the JLCW is described in greater detail under the heading “2010-2011 Project Proposals”. In addition to our annual slate of projects, twice each year our new members engage in group projects as part of our New Member training – one project in the fall and one in the spring. These projects traditionally are short-term and always involve hands-on community work. Past projects have included health and literacy programs and creating or refurbishing rooms in group facilities for children, teens or adults. Organizations wishing to submit ideas for New Member projects can contact Karen Chapro through the JLCW office. Finally, for those potential projects that the JLCW cannot staff as part of our annual project slate or our new member projects in any year, we are in the process of constructing a web-board where we can post these project ideas. Our hope is that this web-board can act as an information source for individuals and organizations interested in community service projects. Organizations wishing to post potential project ideas on the web-board should e-mail a short description of their organization and the proposed project to our Community Development Director, Karen Chapro, through our offices or by email at chapro4@aol.com.
