Informational Coffees to be Held on January 23 at 9:30 am and January 24 at 8:00 pm.

January 7, 2013, Scarsdale NY – The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) invites women living or working in Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale and White Plains to its semi-annual “Recruiting Coffees” at historic Wayside Cottage on January 23 at 9:30 am and January 24 at 8:00 pm.  The JLCW is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLCW invites women of all races, religions and national origins who are committed to volunteerism to become a members.

At the informational coffees, prospective members will learn about the JLCW’s efforts to improve the lives of neighbors in need, as well as the activities that support these initiatives, including fundraising and development, volunteer training and communications.   Joining the JLCW provides opportunities for volunteers to impact their community in a meaningful way and foster life-long friendships and professional relationships with fellow volunteers and members of the community in which they serve.

Each year, the JLCW opens its doors to women of Central Westchester who want to become involved in an organization that makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of local children and individuals, offers training in a variety of educational and leadership opportunities, and provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership and lifelong friendship.

New members enter a training course where they work together to complete a short-term community service project. The Fall 2012 new member class partnered with the Grace Church Community Center (GCCC) Samaritan House Women’s Shelter in White Plains.  With the goal of enhancing residents’ lives,  JLCW members revitalized living quarters, hosted a brunch for residents and staff, and created Welcome Wagon Move-In Kits for the residents when they transition out of the shelter and into more permanent housing. The short-term projects for new members are designed to help the community, allow members to get acquainted with the League, and foster networking between new members.

“Our membership encompasses the full spectrum of central Westchester women, including professional executives and stay-at-home moms, who share the same commitment to making an impact on the community and building life-long friendships ,” stated Lauren Wyler-Smith, President of the JLCW. “I look forward to welcoming a new group of dynamic women, calling them my friends, and working with them on many projects in the future.”
