Junior League Seeks Teen Clothing For Local Girls in Need
The Sharing Shelf of FSW to Host its Teen Boutique in Partnership with the Junior League of Central Westchester
March 13, 2018 – The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) today announced the kickoff of a donation drive for teen girls’ clothing and personal items. New and gently used donations are needed for the upcoming Teen Boutique, an event created by The Sharing Shelf of Family Services of Westchester (FSW). Teen Boutique is a one-day free shopping boutique for girls ages 13-19 from families in financial need. The private event will be held at the Westchester County Center in late April.
The Sharing Shelf will welcome at least 250 girls, referred through schools and area nonprofits such as community groups, social service agencies and food pantries. Each shopper will select a week’s worth of spring and summer clothing and accessories including shirts, shorts, sweaters, skirts, dresses, shoes, pants, jewelry, bras, new socks and new underwear.
The JLCW is calling on the local community for donations to make the event a success. Clothing should be gently used or new, in clean, wearable condition and seasonally appropriate. Accepted sizes are Teen/Adult S to XL and pants 0-20. There is an acute need for Adult L/XL tops and pants in women/teen size 10 (30) and larger.
“Teen Boutique has been a vast success because it empowers the teen girls to choose the essential items they need to thrive, enabling them to feel valued and more confident,” said Deborah Blatt, Program Director and Founder of The Sharing Shelf. “We are excited to pair with the JLCW once again. With each Teen Boutique, we see the power of the Westchester community coming together to make it happen, and we look forward to the continued support of those who need it most.”
“It is our honor to partner with The Sharing Shelf on this event, as we share the common goal of enabling young women to reach their full potential,” stated Alyse Streicher, President of the JLCW. “This drive gives a second life to clothing and accessories, and serves as a reminder that we have neighbors in dire need of these basic items.”
Through the month of March, donations can be dropped off on the porch at the JLCW’s Wayside Cottage at 1039 Post Road, Scarsdale, NY. For more information and ways to get involved, visit their website at http://www.jlcentralwestchester.org/teenboutique.
